Srinagar 23 July CNS: Local youth of Lachampora in Batamaloo, who were protesting against the shortage of drinking water supply in the area from past many days, thrashed Senior Journalist Haya Javed, associated with CNS, when he was driving through the area to cover the protest.
Javed was heading towards the protest spot to perform his professional duties, when a group of protesting youth suddenly attacked him without any reason. They broke his cell phone and also beat him mercilessly.
The matter was brought into the notice of police, which assured action against the assailants.
Journalist body has strongly condemned the attack on its member and demanded stern action against the goons who attacked Javed.
According to the reports about the incident and the protest, residents of the area came on streets and blocked the road raising slogans against Public Health Engineering Department for depriving them of regular regular water supply.
The protesting residents alleged that despite repeated requests, the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department has failed to restore the water supply in the area.
They alleged that the PHE employees have deliberately snapped the water supply to the locality, which has forced them to come on streets. They were demanding the immediate resolution to their problem.
Meanwhile senior journalist Haya Javed was heading towards the spot, where protests were taking place to cover it, some disgruntled youth, who were part of the protest attacked him without any reason.
A police party from Batamaloo police station, reached the spot and assured locals of taking up their matter with authorities concerned and also promised action against the youth, who attacked Javed.. (CNS)
